Blue Crab festival

Thousands attend the Blue Crab Festival in Little River each year.

It’s not just the Blue Crab Festival, it’s now known as the world-famous Blue Crab Festival,

coming to Little River with live music, more than 250 vendors and thousands of visitors from all

over the country.

The 43-year-old event started in 1981 and children who came to the festival with their parents

are now bringing their own grandchildren to the festivities.

The festival started modestly, intending to make folks aware of the historic area which includes

restaurants, businesses and all manner of accommodations for guests.

These decades later, the Blue Crab Festival is a staple for locals and visitors who look forward to

it all year.

A $10 ticket will bring the adventure and excitement on May 17 and 18 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at

the Historic Little River Waterfront, 4468 Mineola Ave., Little River.

By the way, only service animals will be allowed, please leave your other pets at home.

A water taxi will be available for $25 for adults a $15 for kids younger than 12 and includes a

round-trip ride, parking and admission to the festival.

There will be ATM machines inside the festival grounds, and while several vendors do accept

credit cards, it’s suggested that guests bring cash for those vendors who do not.

It’s also suggested that guests bring a light-weight folding chair to the event.

There will be several seafood meals, of course including crab, and other, non-seafood food

options at the festival. However, no outside food, drinks or coolers will be allowed.

Parking will be available at Hop Willard, 701 Highway 17, Little River; Pizzeli’s for handicapped

parking in the open grass lot behind the restaurant at 1698 US 17 in Little River and the

Southwest Brunswick Branch Library, 9400 Ocean Hwy. W. in Calabash, N.C
