One of the most successful football players to ever emerge from Horry County is continuing his journey in the National Football League.
Hunter Renfrow, a Socastee High School standout who graduated in 2014, signed with the Carolina Panthers this week after not playing in the 2024 NFL season.聽
Renfrow played for the Las Vegas Raiders (formerly the Oakland Raiders) after being drafted out of Clemson in 2019. He had a successful stint with the Raiders, racking up over 250 catches, more than 2,800 yards and 17 touchdowns over four seasons with the team.聽
Renfrow was released in 2024 and then shockingly went unsigned during the 2024 season, leaving many questioning whether he would return to the NFL. The Panthers officially signed him after the 2025 NFL Draft on Sunday, April 27.
, Renfrow's contract is a one-year deal.
After a successful high school career at Socastee, Renfrow went on to be a star at Clemson under head coach Dabo Swinney. He was a member on both national championship teams in 2016 and 2018 and won the 2018 Burlsworth Trophy, which is given to the best college football player who started their career as a walk-on, which Renfrow did at Clemson.
Renfrow is expected to compete for a roster spot with the Panthers in his return to the Carolinas. The Panthers' starting quarterback is former Alabama standout Bryce Young. Also on Carolina's receiving corps is Xavier Leggette, a former South Carolina Gamecock who played high school football at Mullins High.
