Carolina Forest High School is on a roll this season in regards to baseball.
Ranked No. 1 in Class AAAA, the Panthers have 12 seniors, a veteran head coach and their eyes on the state championship. CFHS had cruised through the season so far, in the last week defeating Sumter and West Florence.
Carolina Forest got its latest win against St. James鈥攔anked ninth in Class AAA鈥攁t home Thursday night. The Panthers demolished the Sharks 5-0.
Carolina Forest鈥檚 pitching lineup has been leaving opposing batters feeling dizzy at plate.
On Thursday, it was senior Bryar Johnson who took the mound for six innings and produced six strikeouts, allowing only one hit.
Senior closer Caleb Lindaberry produced one strike out in the seventh inning as well. This was Johnson鈥檚 second start of the season and his second win on the mound.
The Panthers were unstoppable when they swung their bats.
Senior Hunter Baiden went 1-2 with a home run, along with senior Patrick Orlando, who went one for two with an RBI.
The entire roster took their turn, swinging for the fences in the fourth inning, which produced three runs by walk.
The Carolina Forest Panthers are currently ranked No. 1 in the S.C. Baseball Coaches鈥 Association poll released March 17, and for good reason.
CFHS is now 7-1 and looking to continue dominating this season.
鈥淚 thought we did well today. Bryar pitched well and lasted as long as we needed, so that鈥檚 always good,鈥 said CFHS coach Jack Jolly. 鈥淏ryar has really improved over the last season. He and Ryan [Gold] have a good tempo win they start and I think they proved that tonight.鈥
Gold started at catcher with Johnson pitching. He has committed to Coastal Carolina University where he wants to play with his older brother Jared Gold under CCU coach Gary Gilmore. 鈥淚 would love to play at the next level with Bryar, we play well together and he鈥檚 a great guy. He did great tonight,鈥 Gold said after the game.
鈥淚 think we did really well today, I mean we need to keep improving, watching when we swing and just keep putting ourselves in good opportunities at the plate and on defense,鈥 Jolly added. 鈥淏ut I was really happy with how everyone played today.鈥
The Panthers are not only dominating on the varsity level of high school baseball, but also on the junior varsity level.
Under jayvee coach Brian Brunson, the Panthers are undefeated so far this season, going 6-0.
While Coach Jolly might be losing 12 seniors after this year, he can look forward to a group of talented young Panthers to continue the winning legacy of baseball at Carolina Forest.
The Panthers will play at home again on April 5, taking on Conway High School at 6:30 p.m.
