Police are investigating a deadly shooting at a Conway residence Tuesday evening that killed a standout girls basketball player, according to Conway police.
The Horry County Coroner's Office said just before midnight April 29, 18-year-old Ja鈥橬iya Richburg died at her boyfriend's home on Horry Street when a bullet entered through a window.
Richburg was a star on the Loris High School girls basketball team. A senior this season, she was celebrated at the school back in January for reaching the accomplishment of 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. In March, she played in the North-South girls basketball all-star game.
Horry County Schools issued a statement Wednesday, calling Richburg's death tragic.
"This event is bound to evoke a range of emotions within our entire school community, particularly among our students," the statement reads. "Ja鈥橬iya Richburg, a senior at Loris High School, was known for her vibrant personality as well as her outstanding achievements in both academics and athletics. We have received limited information regarding her passing, and we will continue to honor the family's privacy. The loss of a student impacts the entire school community; therefore, Loris High School is offering counseling services to any student or staff member who may be affected by this tragedy."

If I鈥檓 not mistaken, it was reported the shot that took the life of this young woman was fired through a window of the house. This leads me to question was this a random drive by shooting or was the girl a targeted victim??!!
