U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-01)聽had advertised she would deliver a speech to more than 100 people in Myrtle Beach. Instead, eight people showed up, she canceled the speech聽and answered questions from reporters.
Mace was expected to deliver remarks focused on 鈥減rotecting parental rights and advancing freedom in education鈥 at the Moms for Liberty 鈥 Horry County Chapter meeting at Forward Church on Thursday, Aug. 21.聽
But when she walked into the room, and more chairs were empty than occupied. Plans seemingly changed.聽
At 4 p.m., the scheduled start time for the event, only eight people were in the room 鈥 not including members of the press and security.聽Mace and her team entered through a side door, walked past the stage where she had been set to speak, and went into a back room. A member of her press team came out shortly after, spoke briefly with the event organizer, and then told reporters the congresswoman would take questions from the press before meeting individually with attendees.
The speech was no longer happening.聽
Thursdays stop in Myrtle Beach was her second public appearance in Horry County this week as Mace spoke at Rep. Russell Fry鈥檚 鈥淔reedom Fry鈥 event on Monday.聽
Horry County has been characterized as a 鈥渂ellwether county鈥 by Mace, who said intends to spend a lot of time campaigning in the area.聽
鈥淭he bellwether that Horry County brings is 鈥榃here are Trump voters?鈥 Where are they leaning?鈥 Trump voters are two-thirds of the state, and we鈥檙e winning Trump voters by double digits 鈥 almost 20 points.鈥澛
Mace鈥檚 campaign released polling numbers this week that show Mace leading the field with 25%, followed by Alan Wilson at 17%, Ralph Norman at 10%, Pamela Evette at 6% and Josh Kimbrell at 3%. Of the 600 "likely Republican primary voters" who were polled, 38% were still "undecided."聽
Those numbers showing Mace leading in support among Republican voters in South Carolina was even posted by President Donald Trump on TRUTH Social on Monday night.聽聽
Mace said she texted the president the numbers on Monday afternoon and he responded by posting them on his personal account.聽
She said she couldn鈥檛 be more grateful for his sign of support and is working very hard to receive his highly coveted endorsement.聽
鈥淚鈥檓 leading in Horry County and [the] 7th Congressional District and [the] 1st Congressional District by a very wide margin. I鈥檓 winning everywhere basically, except in Columbia 鈥 . We鈥檙e leading everywhere in the state, particularly in Horry County,鈥 Mace said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e over 50% here.鈥

If those eight big fans had heard her speak, I am sure she would have lost their vote.馃槄
