HCPD officer injured

An Horry County Police Department motorcycle officer was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash in the Loris area Thursday, May 1, the department said Friday.

An Horry County Police Department motorcycle officer was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash in the Loris area Thursday, May 1, the department said Friday.

The officer was transported to the hospital after the crash around 7:30 a.m. near Red Bluff Road and Sandpiper Road outside of Loris.

"The HCPD motorcycle officer sustained significant injuries," the police department said in a release. "There will be a long road to healing ahead, and we appreciate your support in this time."

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Members of HCPD, Horry County Fire Rescue, South Carolina Highway Patrol and Horry County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.

Within a day, a 聽Chris Miller reached its goal to help support the officer's wife and children during this time, raising $9,875.

"This situation leaves [his wife] without the necessary financial support to cover the days she needs to be by Chris's side," the Gofundme reads. "The community's support is crucial in helping Jess manage this difficult time without the added stress of financial strain."
