Goggles had a nose for crime.
The Myrtle Beach Police Department K9 sniffed for explosives, recovered firearms and tracked suspects for three years on the force with handler Shon McCuskey.
Now, at nine and a half years old, Goggles has retired.
鈥淎s much as today is about Goggles and her outstanding achievements, it鈥檚 also about the man behind her leash, Shon McCluskey,鈥 said MBPD K9 handler Tyler Struckus. 鈥淪hon and Goggles have 603 career deployments, they have over 300 explosive sweeps, multiple firearms recovered, several successful tracks of suspects and hundreds of hours spent during sweeps.鈥
The yellow labrador retriever will spending the rest of her days at McCluskey鈥檚 home.
鈥淪he鈥檚 been a loyal partner and a bridge to the community. I鈥檓 going to miss bringing her to work鈥攂ut she鈥檚 earned every minute of her rest,鈥 McCluskey said.
MBPD now has four K9s on its force: Coax, Yogi, Goose and Unkus.
Police department spokesperson Randolph Angotti said MBPD will soon add another K9 to fill Goggles鈥 role.
