Wherever you are in the Grand Strand, the familiar growl of bike engines in May brings a rumbling energy to the locals and visitors alike.
The sound of the Myrtle Beach Bike Rally catapults the Grand Strand into the busy summer season.
Bikers from far and wide will swarm the sleepy fishing village of Murrells Inlet from May 9-18, turning it into a Harley Davidson haven.
Bill Barber, event director at Suck Bang Blow, said last weekend鈥檚 Walk of Shame hiring event and rally kick-off gives a good sense of what the upcoming rally will have in store.
鈥淭his year was a really good one. We feel like, if Mother Nature cooperates, this could be a record year,鈥 Barber said. 鈥淭he vibe is that this rally is going to knock it out of the park.鈥
He added that, from communication with other rallies around the country, "Myrtle Beach is the one being talked about."
Spider Webb, chairperson of the Myrtle Beach Bike Rally promotions and marketing committee, said he is excited to announce a Welcome Center and Rally Headquarters for the 2025 Spring Rally.
For the first time in over 80 years, incoming bikers will be able to get information about events, ride routes, good meals, camping areas, hotels and more. The rally's headquarters is located by the Murrells Inlet Outpost.
鈥淥ne of the things bikers have been asking for is new activities," Webb said. "That鈥檚 what our visitors want. They want new stuff going on and obviously when they get here they have a choice of tons of restaurants, tons of things to do, and most importantly fill up hotel rooms."
Webb said with more than 400,000 people visiting the area during the Myrtle Beach Bike Rally, the economic impact on the Myrtle Beach market is huge.
He added the community aspect of the rally is very familial.
鈥淵ou have your family and you have your biker family,鈥 Webb said. 鈥淲e have to nourish and market and take care of the rally to make sure we don't slide back.鈥
The welcome center can provide information about burnout contests, loud pipe contests, rides, and more happening throughout the rally. There will be lounge chairs, bluesy music and high top tables for anyone wanting to "get away for a minute."
SBB is a vibrant venue for music with the two stages they offer. Barber said Saturday night鈥檚 entertainment at SBB, Cowboy Kid Rock, should draw a big crowd. He added that they鈥檝e added more rap music in recent years to appeal toward the younger crowd.
Bubba Sparxxx will perform May 14. Other artists performing include Piedmont Boys and Saliva.
Another big draw of the event is the rows of vendors surrounding Beaver Bar and SBB.
鈥淚f you want to go shopping, you can shop 'til you drop here,鈥 Barber said.聽
Vendors offer accessories for bikes or apparel for bodies, creating a maze of leather vests, chaps and bags. Some offer jewelry for men and women.
Puckerbutt hot sauce is offering scorching samples, an event and vendor in one.
Public Safety
鈥淲atch out for bikes,鈥 Webb said.
鈥淧eople are in a hurry to go no where fast,鈥 Barber said.
The Horry County Police Department and the Georgetown County Sheriff鈥檚 Office will be taking public safety measures throughout the bike rally.
鈥淲e will have an increased presence in the Murrells Inlet area to assure the safety of the public,鈥 said Lt. Joseph Kosydar of GCSO.
A GCSO spokesperson said the sheriff's office takes protecting the public traveling on highways seriously during the Spring Bike Rally. Deputies will be stationed in strategic locations and both traffic officers will be on duty throughout the week.
GCSO issued 415 tickets during the 2024 Spring Bike Rally.
A spokesperson for HCPD said community members can expect an increased presence in the Garden City, Murrells Inlet, North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach areas in particular for the bike rally.
The spokesperson for HCPD said bike rally preparations began in January, and while staffing and operational plans account for the worst case scenario, they hope for a peaceful event that bikers, visitors and residents can enjoy.
Traffic patterns remain the same, but stay aware of road barriers and increased pedestrian and motorcycle traffic.
