Pay raises for city employees, a 3% tax increase, new fees and a slew of projects and initiatives are proposed for the upcoming fiscal year in the city of Conway.
At a special-called meeting on Monday, the board raised concerns about Conway鈥檚 current plan to use a TIF district (tax increment financing) to finance proposed upcoming projects that center around development and expansion.

鈥淲e鈥檙e disappointed,鈥 said Conway Mayor Barbara Blain. 鈥淚t was a huge possibility that would have provided answers to needs. Now it鈥檚 closed. In the meantime, we鈥檙e going to have to take a comprehensive look at what our greatest needs are.鈥
鈥淭he reality is the only mechanism that the city of Conway has to pay employees as costs go up, as groceries go up, as everything goes up, is to increase taxes as well.鈥
An increase to police pay is one of Conway鈥檚 major considerations in the upcoming 2024-25 fiscal year budget.
